Capiz State University Pontevedra Campus was previously the Capiz Agricultural and Fishery School (CAFS).
CAFS started as a municipal high school in Pontevedra, Capiz in 1948. On June 21, 1957, the municipal high school was converted into the Capiz Agricultural and Fishery School by virtue of RA 1785 (An Act to Establish a School of Fisheries in the Province of Capiz and to Authorize the Appropriation of Necessary Funds Therefor) and RA 1786 (An Act Converting the Pontevedra High School in the Municipality of Pontevedra, Province of Capiz, into an Agricultural School to be Known as the Capiz Agricultural School, and Authorizing the Appropriation of Funds Therefor).
It continuously grew into a national agricultural and fisheries school and eventually to a national agricultural and fisheries college. CAFS then merged with Mambusao Agricultural and Technical College (MATEC) in 1980 to form the Panay State Polytechnic College.
